"Double Trouble"

Looking into an elephant's eye
I touch only kindness and wisdom...
and remember my grandmother.

When I'm painting an elephant, I think about the variety of unique ways an elephant uses its trunk besides to smell. The tip of its trunk has more sensitivity than the tips of my fingers. An elephant uses its trunk to scatch its eye, to sense ground vibrations from distant sources, and for drinking to pick up gallons of water at one time.

Elephants hold secrets of having lived on earth when it was new.

See how softly these two friends touch each other with their trunks, and how gently they touch as they walk together.
